He is survived by his wife, Julia Prevatte Powers; daughter, Tara Smith and her husband Timmy of Angier; son, Kevin Powers of Angier; sisters, Brenda Taylor and husband, Frank of St. Pauls, Faye Harrell and husband, Bobby of St. Pauls; grandchildren, Tucker Smith, Taylor Smith, and Hannah Powers. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Betty Godwin; brothers, James Powers and Oliver Powers, Jr. Arrangements were handled by Bryan Lee Funeral Home of Angier. A funeral service was held at Piney Grove Chapel Baptist Church, Angier. The burial followed at Lakeside Memorial Gardens, Angier.
