The Harrisburg Cemetery is probably one of the oldest cemeteries for African-Americans in Granville County. It has been poorly maintained over the years, and is still used occasionally for burials.
The adjacent newer cemetery is known as Cheatham Memorial Cemetery. Most people view these two cemeteries as a single cemetery, even though an old fence separates parts of each. The newer cemetery is also known as Plummer Cheatham Cemetery, since Henry Plummer Cheatham is one of the people buried here.
The majority of the burials in this listing are taken from death certificates on file in the Register of Deeds Office in Oxford, NC.
