Location - Smithfield.


Travel west from Smithfield of Hwy 210, crossing over Middle Creek. Just after crossing the bridge, turn on a dirt path to the right. The Cemetery is on the left of the path upon the hill. It is covered with kudzu in the summertime, but fairly cyear in the fall & winter. There is at least an acre in this cemetery and was possibly the buying grounds for the slave families belonging to the Ashley Sanders family. There are many slate markers and depressions marking gravesites, but very few tombstones. 26 marked graves. At least 57 unmarked graves.
